In modern conditions, IT is the main factor in technological change and a condition for ensuring the competitiveness of both individual enterprises and countries, leading to the modernization of all economic and production processes, increasing productivity and quality, as well as reducing the cost of goods and services.

Over the period from 2018-2022, there has been a dynamic growth in investments in fixed capital (information, computer and telecommunications equipment) in the ICT industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan and Astana and shows an increase of almost 2 and 4 times, respectively.

According to operational data in 2022, the share of the ICT industry in GDP was 2.2%.

In the sphere of industrial production of the ICT industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2022, insignificant shares in the income structure are occupied by: the production of electronic components and boards - 1.2%; production of electronic household appliances - 5.0%; production of computers and peripheral equipment - 30.3%; production of communication equipment - 76.6%.

Foreign direct investment in IT and other information services has grown almost 3 times over the past 5 years, which indicates the high attractiveness of this industry for foreign companies.

At the end of 2022, imports of ICT services exceed exports by only 25.7%, which shows one of the best results in dynamics for the period 2018-2022. (227% - 2018, 208% - 2019, 194% - 2020 and 142% - 2021).

Today, this industry is supported by the state at the republican and local executive levels in the form of subsidies, lower interest rates on loans, tax and customs breaks, etc.
